City of Turku

Turku is the oldest city of Finland and was founded in 1229. It is located in the southwestern Finland, by the river Aura. The first capital of Finland has during times been a highly important gateway to the west. Port of Turku is a significant commercial hub with busy ferry traffic to Sweden, and the airport offers flight connections all over Europe.

The City of Turku will provide a demonstration site where bioretention cells are tested. Location and the technical realization of bioretention cells are planned and agreed between TUAS and the City of Turku. Additionally, The City of Turku will participate actively in dissemination activities, especially in the organization of the professional stakeholder seminar to present the results from pilots and the whole project. As an iWater project partner, the City of Turku will help CleaStormWater to utilize already existing iWater communication networks. Further, Turku stormwater planners will provide their practical expertise for WP “Criteria for Management quality”.
